Policy Memos, Science Notes, and Briefs

One of the most important ways scientists communication within policy is through writing. Through Policy Memos, scientists can communicate current issues with policymakers. CaSP seeks out opportunities to write memos for local Madison policymakers but has also written memos for larger audiences. There are two types of writings commonly recognized in science policy, Policy Memos and Science Notes:

Policy Memos are written in a style where an issue is central and the writers make recommendations based on evidence as to how to address the issue through policy.

Science Notes are a type of memo popularized through the MOST Policy Initiative which seek to discuss an issue and the evidence surrounding it while not making explicit recommendations.

CaSP members have written a number of memos, you can find them in the various directories under the Advocate Tab
